Current Fishing Report

08 26 2007

Has it been "HOT" or what!?  The temps have been high 90's and low 100's in August.  However, Recently it has just been in the high 80 and mid 90's.  Kinda Nice! Looks like the 90's and 80's will hang around for a week more.  It's enjoyable at this temp.  The Water Temp is hanging around mid 80's.

Bass:     The Bass have moved deeper.  Look for them around Points and Structure.  The best baits have been either plastic worms or jigs with trailers.   We have been sticking with Gene Larew's worms in Red with Gold Flk or Silver Flk, Neon, Tomatoe Red, Cherry Pepper and Grape.  Chompers sented finesse worms have also done fairly well.  They are a good choice for drop shotting and shakey heads style of fishing.  The Jig Bite has been consistant with the old standard PBJ, Missouri Craw, Black Blue or Black Red with matching trailers from Yamamoto, Net Bait, Zoom or Chompers.  The Hot Trailers for this summer have been  the Chompers Trailers!

Striper:  The top water bite is OVER. BUT, the spoon bite "IS ON".  Some very nice sized Stripers have been caught on the Binks Spoon on Norfork recently.  Find the bait fish and the stripers should be around them!  The stripers are hanging around th 35 to 70 foot range from the bridges to the dam.  The trolling guys have been doing well on Pogys in the 3" and 4" size.  Red with Red's Guide Service has done very well on the Pogy's this summer.  Check out his website:  redsguidesvc.com  for info.

Walleye:  They do live in Norfork Lake!  Yes sir, we've been catching a few on Crawlers, Leeches and the Binks Spoon.  The trollers have been using Reef Runners, Rapala Deep Diving X-Raps, Hot-n-Tots, DD22's, and TD11's.    Look for these wiley wallys around main lake points in about 30 to 50 foot of water.  It hasn't been easy but it is worth your while if you catch them!

Crappie:  Finicky little raschals.  Patience sometimes will pay off.  Use Minnows around brush piles in 30 to 40 ft of water.  The best reports I have had are from the night fishermen.  Using a Nightblaster Fish-N-Lite Submersible Combo is doing the best.  Some nice sized 14 to 16 inchers!

River:  Call before you fish the White & Norfork, 870-431-5311.  Summer is here and the trout fishing has been productive.  The bait fishermen have been using Berkley Power Bait, Night Crawlers and Wax Worms.  The Fly Fishermen have been using sow bugs, scuds, wooly buggers and midges.  ONCE AGAIN, the Famous ZIG JIG has out produced them all!  Guide Phillip Rice has been catching some nice sized bow's and browns on the White with the Zig Jig.  The Tri-Olive, Brown-Olive, and Ginger have done well.  Phill's reported several in the 3 to 5 lb range from Wild Cat down to Farm House.
